What did you do during Chinese New Year? Well, for me, I went for my nephew's birthday. What can be a more joyous occasion than the first birthday of my baby nephew Edward? It was also an occasion of great rejoicing for my auntie and uncle as it marks their first year of being parents.
By seven o’clock, most of the guests had already arrived. Edward was so excited that he wanted to leave his handprints on the cake. I was assigned to look after Edward and to make sure that he did not spoil the beautifully decorated birthday cake.
At eight o’clock, it was time to cut the cake. Edward stood in front of the cake with a knife placed in his little hand. The candle was blown and he decided to take charge and dropped the knife. As his parents bent down to pick up the knife, he brought his two little hands down onto the cake and “splash”, the cake was spoilt. Then, everybody stared at me me because I was supposed to make sure Edward did not do anything similar to that. However, everybody burst into a hysterical laughter very soon.
Later, everyone began eating the delicious food that my auntie had prepared. My brother made sure that I took special care of Edward. He also asked me to make sure that Edward did not mess up any of the food. That was rather to difficult at first, but I had to fed him a piece of cake, he became very well-behaved.
The last guest left at about 10 o’clock. We were all very happy and contented because everything went rather smoothly.
